We are pleased to announce that Jonas Ammeling has received the third prize at this year’s Bayerisches Wissenschaftsforum (BayWISS) for his research on “Artificial Intelligence in Digital Pathology: Potentials for Precision, Efficiency, and Collaboration.” This award recognizes groundbreaking and forward-looking research achievements.

Jonas’s ongoing doctoral work focuses on integrating AI into histopathology to improve disease diagnosis. His research aims to enhance diagnostic accuracy, reproducibility, and efficiency by automating tasks such as mitosis detection and tumor grading. A key aspect of his work involves developing AI systems that are both technically effective and clinically practical, while also addressing ethical considerations and human-AI interaction.

His publications, as first author and co-author, have appeared in IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, Medical Image Analysis, Technology in Society, and Scientific Reports, among others. In total, he has contributed to more than 20 publications across interdisciplinary teams.
